Hyderabad: In yet another blow to the Telugu
Desam Party (TDP), its sitting legislator from Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam
district on Sunday quit the party to join actor-politician Chiranjeevi's newly
MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao faxed his resignation letter to the party headquarters
in Hyderabad. This was the first time a sitting MLA has left the TDP, though
several former legislators have deserted the main Opposition party in the last
one-month, to join Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam Party, launched on August 26.
Besides Srinivasa Rao, his close aide and Visakhapatnam urban district TDP
President C M A Zaheer Ahmed has also resigned from the party. Another former
MLA from Pendurthy in Visakhapatnam district, Ganababu, too has quit the N
Chandrababu Naidu-led party.
It was a major blow to the TDP, particularly in Visakhapatnam district, where
another former MLA S A Rehman was the first to leave the party in favour of
Praja Rajyam. Srinivasa Rao said he was "relieved" of a two-year-long "mental
strain" on leaving the TDP.
"I have no differences or problems with TDP President Chandrababu Naidu. But I
am unable to adjust with some party leaders of Visakpatnam district," Srinivasa
